1964 Corvair
My First Car
|
|
I started with a very rusted and not running Corvair. It was sitting on someones
patio in Marysville. I was 14 and
the price was right… $50.
When I got the car home and started the restoration, I found $40 under
the carpet. Since I found little
metal under the carpet, I think the seller got the better end of the
deal. Saying restoration was a bit
of a stretch. I didn’t know
what I was doing so this was more of a training exercise for me. Cute paint job. In hindsight I wish I would have
restored it to the original colors.
Notice my skill at applying significant amounts of bondo. I did learn to paint on this
car. I ended up with another Corvair for parts during the process… a 66 in
rougher shape but a good starter motor and housing that I needed. |

This is the final product. The picture is starting to decay. And here I am standing proud
beside my first car. If you think
I look young, you are right. I
bought this car when I was 14 and sold it while I was 15. Selling price: $800. Sold at the flee market in the
drive-in theater on 23 just south of |
